Many species of turtles and tortoises are threatened with extinction. Take the World Turtle Day Pledge and make a difference for these incredible creatures!
Turtles and tortoises face a range of challenges that threaten their survival, including habitat destruction, pollution, and overexploitation of their meat, shells, and eggs. These factors have placed over 350 species of turtles and tortoises at risk of extinction1.
Some of the most endangered species include the Radiated Tortoise, Madagascar Spider Tortoise, Ploughshare Tortoise, Kemp's Ridley Sea Turtle, Leatherback Sea Turtle, and Hawksbill Sea Turtle2. Habitat destruction, illegal pet trade, accidental capture in fishing gear, and collection for food are the leading causes of their rapid decline3.
We cannot afford to stand by and let these beautiful creatures disappear. We must act to protect turtles and their habitats before it's too late.
One of the most important things that we can do is to reduce our consumption of products made from these animals. In many parts of the world, turtles and tortoises are still consumed as a delicacy or used in traditional medicine, even though this practice is illegal in many countries4. By reducing the demand for these products, we can help to reduce the pressure on turtle populations.
Supporting conservation efforts is another vital step in protecting turtles. Several organizations, such as Greater Good Charities and Project Peril, are working hard to protect turtle habitats, conduct research, and raise awareness about the threats facing these animals. By supporting these organizations, we can help ensure a bright future for turtles.
But that’s not enough. We need to act locally, too. Participate in beach cleanups to remove debris that could harm turtles or their habitats. Avoid using plastic bags and straws, which can end up in the ocean and harm marine life. Reduce your carbon footprint by walking, cycling, or taking public transport instead of driving, or use reusable bags instead of disposable ones. By taking these small steps, you can help to make a difference in the lives of turtles.
Help us protect turtles and their habitats. Take the World Turtle Day Pledge and commit to taking specific actions to reduce your negative impact on the lives of turtles.
Together, we can make a difference in the lives of these magnificent creatures. Let’s take a stand for turtles and their habitats. Sign the pledge today!

Updates:
Turtles are some of the most fascinating and unique creatures on our planet, but many species are now facing extinction due to human activities. On this World Turtle Day, I pledge to take action to help protect these incredible animals and reduce my negative impact on their habitats.
Here are ten actions I pledge to take:
- I will reduce my consumption of turtle and tortoise products, including meat, shells, and eggs.
- I will never release a pet turtle or tortoise into the wild, as this can introduce diseases and disrupt native ecosystems.
- I will participate in beach cleanups to remove debris that could harm turtles or their habitats.
- I will avoid using plastic bags and straws, which can end up in the ocean and harm turtles.
- I will speak out against destructive practices like oil drilling and mining in sensitive turtle habitats.
- I will support legislation that protects turtles and their habitats.
- I will educate myself and others about the importance of turtles and their role in our ecosystem.
- I will use my social media platforms to raise awareness about the threats facing turtles and encourage others to take action.
- I will volunteer my time to help with turtle rescue projects and other conservation efforts.
- I will support organizations that work to protect turtle habitats, conduct research, and raise awareness about the threats facing these animals, such as Greater Good Charities and Project Peril.
By taking these actions, I pledge to do my part in protecting turtles and their habitats, and help ensure that future generations can enjoy these amazing creatures. I urge others to join me in taking the World Turtle Day pledge and making a difference in the lives of these endangered animals.
Pledged by,
